Artist:
Douglas Hamilton (1895-1957): Trained under Alf Webster in the Stephen Adam Studio. Douglas Hamilton was an apprentice, then an assistant. When Webster was killed in 1915, MCM Webster, Alf's widow, kept the studio going by placing it under the direct management of Hamilton, until Alf's son Gordon (born 1908) was old enough to take over. (Gordon Webster, although a child when his father died, was trained by Hamilton so his work is strongly influenced by his father's.) Since Hamilton had worked closely with Webster, he was able to complete several commissions which were outstanding at the time of Alf's death. Hamilton was greatly influenced by Alf Webster's style and compositional ideas, However, he also bought in the design services of Alexander Walker, David Gauld and others. (RM 2010)
