The Creation Window
Window of three lights and tracery.
This window loosely depicts the Creation. The Holy Trinity is depicted in the tracery- the hand, symbolises God the father; a fish, a symbol of Christ; and a dove,a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Each lancet contains vignettes of creation, stars, moons, butterflies, birds, reptiles, fish and bees. The central lancet contains vignettes of an empty cross, Adam and Eve, a lamb and a Phoenix rising from the flames.
This window was installed in 1969.
Artist:
Sax Shaw (1916- 2000) was born in Yorkshire. He attended Hudderfield College of Art and Design and Edinburgh College of Art under Herbert Hendrie. Along with teaching Stained Glass at Edinburgh College of Art and Glasgow School of Art, Sax Shaw was an illustrious tapestry designer and maker based at Dovecot Studio in Edinburgh.
