Glasgow: Renfield St. Stephen's Church of Scotland, Chapel
The Presentation of Jesus at the Temple.
A rectangular window set into a wooden frame, installed onto a light box.
The Presentation of Jesus at the Temple.
This window depicts Jesus being presented at the Temple to Simeon. Simeon is holding the baby Jesus in his right arm and blessing him with his left hand. Mary and Joseph watch the scene intently. Two doves are in a small cage at Mary’s feet. These doves were a required sacrifice at the Temple for the Presentation of a first born son.
This window was originally installed in Maxwell Parish Church, 113 Pollock Street, Glasgow, which was demolished around 1966-1969. This window, along with others were removed from the Church before demolition. This window was resized and reworked in order to present the current panel in a light box. 1 of 4 windows in the Chapel.
