Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Memorial Window
Window of one round headed lancet light.
Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Memorial Window
This window depicts Mary as Our Lady of Perpetual Succour (or Perpetual Help). This image of Mary, the Christ Child and two small angels has been directly adapted from a well-known 13th century Byzantium Icon. Jesus looks over his shoulder at the reminders of his sacrifice- St. Michael on the left (traditionally) holding a lance, crown of thorns and sponge; St. Gabriel on the right (traditionally) carrying a 3 bar cross and nails. Mary is wearing a crown and the 12 star circle is also a symbol of Mary, the Queen of Heaven. Two angels look down on Mary and three larger angels are praying and showing adoration to Mary and Jesus. They are also carrying a banner.
The bottom panel contains a Memorial dedications and is flanked by a Chalice with cruciform halo and a crest/shield with text.
Inscription:
The words “Ave Gratia Plena” (translation: Hail, full of grace) appear beneath the 12 star ring. The three angels are carrying a banner which states, “Our Lady of Perpetual Succour”
Dedication:
The dedication in the bottom panel of the window states; “R.I.P erected by the young men’s Sodality at the BVM in memory of Fr. Thomas S.J 1869-1922 for fourteen years their departed director. Thou art priest for every P.S-109-4-”.
