Intercessionary Window or Adoration of Mother and Child

Window of one round headed lancet light.

This window depicts a man and a boy praying at an Altar. Above the Altar is a view of Mary and the Christ Child in heaven surrounded by clouds and four angels. One of the angels is gesturing to the North Star (a symbol of Mary) above her head. The dedication and the scene can be interpreted as one of Intercession, Mary is often the go between Man and Christ.

Inscription:
The inscription around the edge of the upper curved panel states: “Mother of ___ Good Counsel”. The ‘MR’ lettering, also in the upper curved panel is interpreted as Maria Regina (translation Queen Mary).

Dedication:
The bottom section of the window contains a dedication, framed and topped by a Fleur De Lis (another symbol of Mary) states: “Pray for the repose of the soul of Rev. FR. Richard Payne S.J 1827-1905 For more than twenty five years chaplain to the young men’s Sodality by whom this window was presented.”
