Matthew, Mark, Luke and John

Window of four round headed lancet lights.

These windows depict the four Apostles, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Lancet 1:
This window depicts two small angels above a tree bearing fruit, which is above the figure of Saint Matthew. Below Saint Matthew is the symbol of an Angel, which Matthew is associated.

Lancet 2:
This window depicts two small angels above a tree bearing fruit, which is above the figure of Saint Mark. Below Saint Mark is the symbol of a lion, which Mark is associated.

Lancet 3:
This window depicts two small angels above a tree bearing fruit, which is above the figure of Saint Luke. Below Saint Luke is the symbol of an Ox, which Luke is associated.

Lancet 4:
This window depicts two small angels above a tree bearing fruit, which is above the figure of Saint John. Below Saint John is the symbol of an eagle, which John is associated.

Inscription:
Lancet 1:
‘Saint Matthew’/‘Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven’. (Matthew 5:3)

Lancet 2:
‘Saint Mark’/ ‘The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God’. (Mark 1:1)

Lancet 3:
‘Saint Luke’/ ‘There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth’.

Lancet 4:
‘Saint John’/’In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God’. (John 1:1)

Dedication:
These windows were the gift of Mrs. Henry Smith, in June 1900.
