Geographical Search

The Geographical Search allows you to define a map area and then find related records on Scran. Just over 50% of records have been tagged.

Click on an area of the grey map to zoom in.

On the next screen:

  • Use compass points to move around.
  • Use the + and - to zoom or click the map.
  • To search Scran, put the cross on the map and click Go.

Find Scran Records Related to a Place

Choose one option below. Some searches may take longer.
For postcodes use the format EH47 or EH47 8 for narrower searches. Mind the space.
Grid references should be in the 2-letter 6-digit format, e.g. NT 264 719.

To search Scran's entire database of images, audio clips, video clips and 3D environments, use the Search box in the  top right corner of the grey bar to search at any time.

Choose one of the search functions below for special searches:

  • Advanced Search - Perform a complex search, combining terms and sorting your results.
  • Fielded Search - Search by data fields for exact matches.
  • Geographical Search - Search by area using our map interface.
  • Curriculum Navigator - Search Scran Resources by curriculum, subject, level and Dewey number.
  • Projects - Explore batches of Scran records received from particular institutions and individuals.
  • Search Other Sites - Locate the images you want in associated image libraries.
  • Top 10 - View the top 10 records from the last 24 hours and the last month; or use advanced top 10 to customize the display.
